Busselton festival ambassador heads overseas

30 Mar, 2011 12:44 PM
JETSET Travel presented Busselton local Aimee Carter with a travel voucher for being one of the winners in the 2011 Festival of Busselton Young Ambassador competition, last Thursday.

Jetset’s Jenny Cross handed over the voucher and helped Aimee choose where she might want to travel.

The 19-year-old volunteered to be a 2011 festival representative for the Lions Club after it was found that no one had put their hand up for the position.

Since becoming a charity ambassador, Aimee has attended meetings with the Busselton and Dunsborough Lions clubs, the opening of the jetty and a thank you dinner for the festival of Busselton.

“Becoming an ambassador was one of the hardest things I have ever done and it came at the same time as everything else, unexpectedly,” she said.

“It was a spur of the moment decision for me as I had accomplished so much in that year it was like icing on the cake to be awarded for my efforts.

“I went through a lot in 2010 in terms of my personal life, so I wanted to do this to prove to myself that I can do anything.”

Aimee has travel plans in the near future and a choice of a $1200 travel voucher was not hard to make.

“I’ve been thinking constantly on what I would like to do with it. Things such as trips to visit family, Contiki tours and cruises have all passed through my head.

“Originally, I wanted to see snow, so New Zealand was looking good, but after the earthquake I got a little bit scared to go.

“Since then I have put destinations in a hat, which didn't help as I'm still confused.

“It is not often you get an opportunity like this, so I want to make the most of it.

“Travelling is a passion of mine. I plan to travel a lot over the next few years so I am looking forward to it.”
