WHAT started out as joining some friends for a bit of fun has escalated into something of universal size for Busselton’s Megan Meares.
The 22-year-old former MacKillop Catholic College student, who is studying interior architecture at Curtin University, is one of the seven WA finalists for the Miss Universe Australia contest.
“I’m pretty excited. I didn’t really think about being in the top seven,” she said.
“My goal was to make the top 20. I just entered it because my friends did. It was a bit of a fun thing.
“I haven’t really thought too much about what will happen. It’s a bit of a relief.
“I’ve found it rewarding, I’ve met lots of new people and been to lots of new places.”
Helen Palmer, of Palmer Wines, which staged a semi-final, was a judge.
She said it had been very difficult choosing finalists because they were all so stunning, but felt Megan deserved to be among them.
The seven finalists were selected from 21 contestants at Burswood Park last Friday and will now contest the national Miss Universe Australia final in Sydney in June.
