IT’S not often five generations of the same family can gather together in one place, but that’s exactly what happened on Sunday, to celebrate (Dorothy) Norah Howe’s 100th birthday.
Norah, whose birthday is today, was born two months before the Titanic sunk.
She came to Australia with her family in 1951 as “10 Pound Poms” – British people who emigrated to Australia after World War II, under an assisted passage scheme established and operated by the Australian government.
Norah was very chirpy to the Mail when we were there to take her photo – even asking where we wanted her to be for the picture.
“This is very special, having so many here,” she said.
When asked to blow out the three candles on her birthday cake, she did it with one quick blow, catching many off guard.
Granddaughter Tracey Jarosz attended Sunday’s party.
“It was good – it was excellent,” she said.
“(Norah) was very happy, she didn’t stop chatting.”
There were five generations at the party, with ages spanning from five months to 100 years old.
“We all took platters and we had a beautiful birthday cake,” Tracey said.
“She loved it – we were there for a good couple of hours and she talked to everyone who was there.
“She even had a glass of champagne!”
The celebrations are far from over for Norah, who is having another birthday party today at a local resort. Family and friends from all over the country will attend.
