EIGHTEEN people in the Busselton area were arrested and processed by Busselton police in a busy weekend for duty officers.
“We had 10 staff on duty on the night and they were all kept very busy,” said Officer in Charge Snr Sgt Scott Morrissey.
The weekend crime spree included incidents of alleged fraud, driving-related matters, stealing and breaching bail conditions.
Four of the arrests resulted from incidents at the Busselton Show on Friday night. Nine of the arrests involved holding people in custody, reflecting the fact that they were serious incidents, cases where bail conditions had been breached or cases where police could not be satisfied that the alleged offenders would front the court.
Sgt Morrissey said that three of the people charged were from the Eastern States.
“They are held until the court sees fit to apply a penalty or release them on bail,” he said.
Sgt Morrissey said that the police were seeking cooperation from members of the public who witnessed an incident at the show on Friday night at about 8-8.30pm when there was an altercation involving a group of people and a man was stabbed.
“Anyone who witnessed this incident, which was in a thoroughfare in the heart of the show, is requested to contact the Busselton Police, because we are still inquiring into the matter,” said Sgt Morrissey.
“There was an altercation between two Busselton men and one person suffered minor stab wounds in the back and side.
“The man was treated at Busselton hospital and released that night. The injuries were relatively minor.”
Sgt Morrissey said that there were men and women involved in the incident.
