THE Leukaemia Foundation has a price on the heads of the Dunsborough police for the next three weeks.
That’s right – a donation will see your favourite officer shave or colour his or her hair for the World’s Greatest Shave’s WA Regional Police Challenge.
Sergeant Craig Anderson said the Dunsborough police were calling for community support to help them win the challenge
“Put your money where my hair is,” he said.
“Everyone at the station is getting involved and we already have five confirmed shavers – if the price is right.
“We shan’t be giving anything away to any rival challenges and Dunsborough has invoked a closed training session approach to its fundraising activities. Our goal is to raise at least $1000 dollars a shaver.
“Dunsborough, Yallingup and the surrounding areas are full of fantastic local people and I am confident that with their generous support for this fantastic cause, we will be successful in taking out the Southwest Challenge this year.
With tough competition from stations like Bunbury, Bridgetown and last year’s winners (Harvey Police Station), they will need big community backing if they are going to win the challenge.
Deb Wilkins, from the Leukaemia Foundation said that every hour in Australia someone was diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma and every two hours, someone has lost their life to those diseases.
“The Leukaemia Foundation provides crucial support and services for patients and their families suffering from these diseases,” she said.
“That’s why it is so important for the community to throw their support behind the Dunsborough police and their fundraising effort.”
Sgt Anderson said that they were also seeking business and corporate sponsorship to help them get over the line.
“We want to beat the $10,000 raised by a station last year,” he said.
The official ‘shave-off’ will be held in Lions Park, Dunsborough on March 12 from 10am.
Along with the police shaves members of the public who would like to raise money for a good cause will also be offered shaves and hair colours.
