YEAR 11 students from MacKillop Catholic College took on the coolest project they’ve completed yet – designing the leavers booklet for 2008.
Last year’s booklet was a hit and this year’s is bound to be the same with information on what wristbands provide, bus timetables, messages from rangers, police and the shire, a series of messages from support groups such as the leavers chaplaincy and the WA AIDS Council, road wise and drug awareness information, contact numbers for assistance and discount offers from local businesses.
The students have contributed graphics and design ideas for the booklet, which will be distributed throughout Leavers Week, which is from November 24-28.
Laurie Guthridge from Juice Print facilitated the project, which he said ran itself with the students on the ball and taking charge of their own work.
Rance Driscoll, project manager at Southern Rip said that it was a good chance to include youth input in the design of the booklet, as well as offering students the chance to experience how product design works.
Students have also acquired working knowledge of the industry, the process of design, working with businesses and life skills that will serve them well in the future.
Southern Rip will also be selling merchandise and take-away food, drinks and snacks at the entertainment zone.
In any case, the booklet looks fantastic and was a successful and artistic venture for all involved.
They will be handed out to leavers with the sale of wristbands.
