Refreshing start to February in Busselton

11 Feb, 2010 08:56 AM
FEBRUARY has brought a refreshing cool change of weather to Busselton after a dry, hot start to the year.

The second month of the year in 2010 has also produced the all-time record minimum temperature (for February), with 7.9C recorded last Wednesday.

The previous lowest was 8.6 on February 26, 2009, which was equalled last Thursday.

With the cooler weather has also come rain, with 3.2mm falling on Sunday. This brings the yearly rainfall to 3.4mm, after only 0.2mm fell in January.

There was only 1.6mm of rain during the festive season (December and January), which was way down on the average of 22.4mm and the driest summer since 2003/04.

There were 11 hot days in January (when the temperature was 32 or above), which was more than January’s usual average of eight hot days, but down on the 14 hot days we had last year.

The average temperature for the first month of the year was 30.5, which was also above average (29.2), but down on last year (31).

And while the mercury in Busselton hit a high of 37.5 on January 17, it was very comfortable compared to Onslow, which John Relf, from the Bureau of Meteorology said had a scorching day of 49.2 (a WA record).

The bureau’s forecast for today is a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 30, tomorrow 15-29 and Friday 14-29.
