MANY students were left afraid after the large bushfire on the edge of Busselton.
Two weeks later, students still had lots of questions about the fire, so a visit from the shire and the fire department was arranged to talk to them and answer some of their questions.
Shire risk and occupational health and safety coordinator Wade Dallas and fire management officer Andy Thompson visited Geographe Primary School and St Joseph’s College on Friday afternoon.
Many of the teachers at St Joseph’s said the students were very frightened and upset by the fire and were all talking about it.
More than 50 students asked Andy why people started fires, how they know it was suspicious, how much damage was caused and if any animals were hurt.
Wade discussed the local emergency recovery plan to help families, the environment and the town get back on track.
He reassured the students that they were okay and could now walk along the pathway, where the fires had been, to their home.
Andy took the kids step-by-step through the stages of the fire and told them what FESA and the police knew about the firebugs.
Head boy Samuel Guthridge and head girl Kate Rowe thanked Wade and Andy for the information and helping students become more aware about the fire.
