IT was first school morning for many kids in the area on Monday, but for the Cockman family, of Dunbarton, it wasn’t too stressful, as twins Samantha and Claire were ready to head off to their first day.
The five year olds seemed unfazed in the lead-up to their first day in Year 1 at Vasse Primary School.
Until it was time to go.
Mum, Julie Cockman, said both girls were up early and were all organised, with their uniforms on and had their breakfast before 6.30am.
“They were up and ready before we were out of bed. It wasn’t until they realised they would be in a split class room with Year 1 and pre-primary students that they got worried,” she said.
“However, they settled in okay. Both love school, however Samantha was a bit more excited.”
Vasse Primary has three sets of twins this year. There’s one set in the upper primary school, another in middle primary, while Claire and Samantha are the youngest.
Although they were excited they still had a few butterflies in their tummies Julie said, but being a twin had its rewards, especially on the first day of school.
“They have each other for support, they are there for one another and it gives them comfort knowing someone and they are going through it together,” she said.
“When they got to the school and could see some familiar faces from last year, (when they were in pre-primary at the school) they were excited and caught up with their old friends.”
The girls said they had a great first day. They are in the same class and knew many of the kids from last year and some of the teachers.
Julie said she had four daughters at school this year, but it was very exciting for the twins as they were starting in the ‘big school’.
“We already know our teachers, and we have lots of new things like our new school bags,” Claire said.
As the population in the area continuing to grow, Vasse Primary welcomed 62 new students to the school yesterday, and expected to have an increasing number of students in future years as more people moved to the South West.
