BUSSELTON has had its wettest June of the 21st century with this month’s stormy weather the best rainfall for 10 years. The last time it was wetter than the 244mm we received this month was in June 1999.
It is a far cry from the usual average rainfall for the sixth month of the year, which is just 170.6mm.
Despite the June deluge we are still down on the yearly average, though we are catching up fast as 369.1mm is the average for this time of year. But even after the recent drenching we still fell 45.9mm short of that.
The recent turn of weather doesn’t look likely to abate for a while yet, with showers expected to continue this month, for the rest of this week at least.
The recent downpours and storms have also seen the SES out in force, with over 100 calls to the SES throughout the state.
Fallen trees and minor damage to homes and cars have been reported throughout the South West.
In spite of the damages the rain was a welcome relief from a May that was one of the driest on record.
