Tottenham Hotspur to visit Dunsborough

01 Feb, 2012 09:34 AM
YOUNG soccer fans – put on your boots, an English Premier League team is coming to Dunsborough in April.

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, commonly referred to as Spurs, will host a player development course at the Dunsborough Playing Fields.

Spurs, who are an English Premier League club based in London, are enjoying one of their best league seasons and are currently in the midst of a title challenge with Manchester United and Manchester City.

They won the League Cup in 2008 and have won a major trophy in each of the past six decades – an achievement only matched by Manchester United.

In the development course, children aged six to 16 years of all abilities can take part in the advanced-style coaching based on the Tottenham Hotspur Academy syllabus.

One day will be dedicated to soccer skills where players will test their individual skills on specially-devised soccer stations, on all the techniques the game has to offer.

“It’s an international coaching team,” football development officer Lee Bramley said.

“It’s not every day a premier league club comes to Australia, let alone a town like Dunsborough.

“(The course is) fantastic for the local community.”

The course follows a previous attempt in Perth last year.

“We had one in Perth in October – it went really, really well,” Lee said.

“There has been quite a large response from people in the area, because the last one went so well.

“If things go well in WA we’ll go to Melbourne and Sydney.”

The course will be held at the Dunsborough Playing Fields from 10am-4pm on April 23-24.

Bookings are necessary, and tickets cost $195.
