THE Geo Bay Swim is back again in November and plans to be bigger and better than ever.
This is the second official year of the swim and president Mick Bray hopes to get more than 50 swimmers competing.
“The Geo Bay Swim is a 20km open water swim across Geographe Bay. It is a great way to challenge yourself and is ideal as a warm-up for anyone entering the Ironman. The event is three weeks before the Ironman and you can practice swimming the full distance of the Ironman as part of a duo. If you are interested then contact us, or go online and sign-up now,” Mick said.
You can enter the race solo, as a duo, or in a team of up to five swimmers. There are four changeover points at pre-determined locations, which vary the stage lengths, for a team, from between 3.2kms-4.3kms.
The race starts at the Quindalup Boat Ramp, Dunsborough, and finishes just shy of the jetty (due to the renovations).
“Entry has been open for a couple of weeks and we are looking for more people to sign-up, and also for support paddlers. The race is eco-friendly, which means no powerboats, however each entrant/team must have a support paddler. If you don’t have a team then contact us and we will organise one for you,” Mick said.
The organisers of the Geo Bay Swim are looking to expand the race every year.
“We are aiming high and hope that one day this swim will rival the Rottnest Swim. The pristine waters of Geographe Bay is the perfect location for open water swimming,” Mick said.
