BSLS gets off to healthy start

29 Oct, 2008 08:21 AM
THE Busselton Surf Life Saving Club kicks off the new season as a ‘Healthy Club’.

The club is one of approximately 200 other clubs to receive the new ‘Healthy Club’ sponsorship from Healthway.

The sponsorship program, managed by Sports Medicine Australia, takes a holistic approach to health rather than focusing on any one particular health issue.

“This sponsorship will assist our club to implement healthy initiatives and to improve current training and competition initiatives,’’ said Mike Piggott, marketing director of the Busselton Surf Life Saving Club.

Sports Medicine Australia is assisting sponsored clubs to develop and implement policies that support healthy initiatives including sports injury prevention.

Fiona Bo from Sports Medicine Australia said “by focussing on the areas of tobacco control, sun protection, injury prevention, healthy eating and sensible alcohol practices, clubs become actively involved in preventing injury and illness and providing a healthy environment for all participants,”.

Busselton Surf Life Saving Club is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for members and welcomes new comers to the club.
