BUSSELTON Bowling Club completed their championship triples on Sunday. Players bowled well in the windy conditions, although finding the right grass and weight was a constant concern.
Despite the trying conditions there was a big turnout with 28 teams filling the greens for the event, which was played over two weekends.
The result was so close that a countback was required to decide the winners. Wally Dawson, Christine Dawson and Cliff Dawson won the event with five wins one loss and 34 shots up.
They were one shot ahead of Judy Rice, Shirley Silverman and Brian Rice, who were playing together for the first time. Third place went to Peter Wills, Raelene Basten and Barry Walsh, who also had five wins, one loss and 33 shots up, but had won 11 less ends.
Members of the club require a large number of volunteers to run the corporate bowls, which started yesterday and continues today. There is the maximum amount of teams registered to play in the competition this year.
This Saturday and Sunday the Ladies Invitation Classic is on with 36 teams from all over the state eager to compete on the fast Busselton greens. Many teams have been playing in this event for years and eagerly await their invitation to play.
