Busselton boxing's novice champion

03 Mar, 2010 11:55 AM
BRANDON Hughes, from the South West Boxing Club, in Busselton, won the 60kg division novice title in Perth on Saturday.

His trainer, Mark Hine, said: “He absolutely dominated the bout on Saturday night.”

“It is a real pleasure to train a boxer like Brandon, who has the ability to listen and then execute what he has been taught.”

Brandon went into the fight with a bad back and was receiving physio treatments two days before the competition.

“Brandon’s dedication and commitment to his boxing and his will to compete helped him bring home the win,” Mark said.

“I was very impressed with his effort on Saturday night, even though boxing is his second sport of choice behind AFL football.

“I would be eager to train him to a much higher level if footy doesn’t work out for him,” he said.

Mark said there were several other promising fighters coming through.

“The gym is progressing nicely and I’m very pumped for an exciting year for the South West Boxing Club.
