BUSSELTON hosted a successful state open firefighting championship on Saturday and Sunday.
The local team, consisted of Geoff Morgan, Scott Walton, Jack West, Tom Osborn and brothers Marc, Bryn and Dean Papalia.
Busselton finished equal third in the handicap aggregate competition behind Northam.
They achieved this by winning one of the 14 events in the competition and excelling in several others.
Marc Papalia (who is currently a member of the Bassendean brigade) ran for Busselton and finished equal second in the champion firefighter.
He was also named at left pole in the WA Composite Eights team.
Harvey and South Kalgoorlie tied as open aggregate champions, while Cory Goodhill (Coolgardie) won champion firefighter.
Busselton hosted the championship as part of the celebrations surrounding their centenary year of operation.
