Finalists decided in Busselton Margaret River Cricket Association

10 Mar, 2010 12:58 PM
THERE is still one round remaining in the Busselton Margaret River Cricket Association’s season, but the sides who play finals in A, B and C-grade have already been decided.

In A-grade Hawks and Yobs will finish first and second, however the minor premiership won’t be decided until after the last round is played. Dunsborough and St Marys will be the other two sides in the finals, with the host of their elimination final also decided this weekend.

The last round of A-grade fixtures sees Hawks host Dunsborough, St Marys at home to Cowaramup and Yobs against Abba in an all-Busselton clash.

Reigning premiers Vasse are again the team to beat in B-grade, winning 15 out of 17 games this season to be well clear on top of the table. They have an unassailable lead heading into the final round, but their first opponent in the finals series is still to be decided with just one point separating second and third at the moment.

This weekend’s games will be a good guide to each teams finals chances with Vasse (first) playing Augusta (second), and Dunsborough (third) facing Hawks (fourth).

Nannup started the season as favourites to go back to back in C-grade and their season so far has confirmed this favouritism with Nannup easily winning the minor premiership.

However, two losses in their past three games against fellow finalists Dunsborough and Hawks, who are second and third respectively, could spell trouble for them as they bid to win their second straight flag.

The other side in the finals is Vasse, who are also capable of an upset – they have beaten both Dunsborough and Hawks already this season. The most intriguing match of the final round of fixtures is Hawks visit to Dunsborough.
