THE Geographe Outrigger and Canoe Club held their annual regatta on Saturday in front of the Geographe Bay Yatch Club.
The races were held close in to shore, parallel to the beach, to minimise the effect of the windy conditions.
The OC-six canoes are designed for ocean racing and handled the conditions well.
The competition was close with some exciting finishes.
The womens’ marathon was a tense affair with Mandurah finishing ahead of Fremantle in first place and Geographe sprinting to the line to finish third by a boat length.
The Iluka 10km Mens’ Marathon was won by Mandurah in under an hour – 10kmh is a typical average pace in a marathon, but the windy conditions added an extra challenge.
Points were allocated for placings in each race and at the end of competion the Mandurah club scored the most points to win the Duel of the Jetty trophy.
West Coast club from Bunbury were second, Fremantle third, Geographe fourth, Wavemasters from Bunbury fifth and Cottesloe sixth.
