YALLINGUP’S Mikaela Greene surfed her way to victory in the Taj’s Smallfries competition, which was held on the weekend.
After five years of making the finals and falling short (she lost by .05 of a point last year) Mikaela told the Mail that she was ecstatic with her performance.
“To win this event is indescribable,” she said.
“I have been surfing since I was 10 and this was my last chance to win. Taj Burrow is my surfing idol and to win the competition in front of him is something I will always remember.
“ I received a lot of support from the local supporters and it felt good to win in front of them on home turf. I would like to thank my sponsors RipCurl, Creatures of Leisure, DMD Surfboards, Country Waves , The Good Guys Busselton and Ella Bache Dunsborough.
“I would also like to thank Taj and Billabong for holding such a great contest.”
The finals were held on Saturday at Injidup Carpark Break. The contestants were welcomed to a solid three to four foot surf.
All the finalists from the different age groups all surfed at an extremely high level.
Taj Burrows and Luke Stedman were towing in and blasting some big moves for all the grommits and spectators.
