BUSSELTON ladies flocked to the greens for the Mitsubishi Triples with 16 teams revelling in the cool but sunny conditions. Each team played two games of three bowl triples over 15 ends and five teams ended up winning both their games.
There could only be three prize-winners unfortunately and in the end the winners, on plus 22 shot, were Liz Thomas, June Kennedy and new life member of the club Rene Simpson.
In second position on plus 18 shots was Joan Bray, Doreen Crier and captain Jenny Bruce while third place, on plus 12 shots, went to Nancy Gordon, Diane Gardiner and Wendy Taylor.
Pennants began last week at the Busselton Bowling Club with Busselton Red and Bunbury Green winning one game each in their match-up, but Bunbury won the aggregate and the match 3-1. Busselton Blue fared better against Boyanup winning both games and the aggregate to take the match 4-0.
Scott Pennington, recently returned from a bronze medal in the Junior National Championships, teams up with his dad, Ian and his brother, Matthew, along with Lionel Holgate to win the men’s championship fours on five wins plus 36 shots.
Second place went to Len Mazga, Rolf Groenheide, Bob Cameron and Roger Badams on five wins plus 31 shots while Peter Fancote, Bert Bray, Doug Tucker and Ron Grigg finished third on four wins, one draw plus 36 shots.
In other news Gail Botting competed in the Open Consistency event at Mount Lawley Bowls Club in Perth. Ninety six players started the event in a knock-out competition with the draw randomly selected.
If you lose then you are eliminated. Gail won three matches in a row to make it to the last eight with her best effort a 100-68 win over state player Bev Scott.
