JUNIOR cricket continued with the second round of fixtures on the weekend.
In the under-16’s St Marys won the toss and elected to bat against Abba.
They got off to a flying start with Mitch Fraser and Harrison Jones opening the batting and both retiring on 57 and 50 respectively.
Jackson Arbon and Tim Grylls continued the onslaught before Arbon fell just shy of his half-century on 45. Grylls continued on and retired on 50, helping St Marys to a mammoth 5-250 off 40 overs.
Abba got off to a slow start with Liam Northover falling to Joel Avery after 14 overs. Justin Gower was solid, batting for 30 overs, finishing with 41 and Kieran Parfitt chipped in with a quick 30. Joel Avery finished with economical figures of 2-21 from eight overs. The game ended with St Marys victorious by 121 runs.
There were perfect conditions for under-14’s cricket on Saturday between Dunsborough and Margaret River Ones. Margaret River won the toss and sent Dunsborough in to bat.
Opener Stan Wright got his eye in and went on a run-scoring spree, amassing 52 before falling to a brilliant catch by Sharni Giles on the boundary. Other Dunsborough batsmen to excel were Max Montanari and Liam Harkens. They helped their team to 9/157 from 30 overs.
Margaret River’s bowling was led by Oliver Quinlan 2 overs 1-0, LJ Sleeger 2 overs 1-3 and Josh Broan 2 overs 2-10.
Margaret River put up a terrific run chase against a tight Dunsborough bowling attack. Samuel Berridge, 30 not out and Riley Giles 19 almost got them over the line, but they fell just short with a total of 8/126.
Blake Glasspool was the pick of the Dunsborough bowlers, claiming two wickets in a tight spell.
