BUSSELTON bowlers enjoyed a scrumptious champagne breakfast cooked to perfection by the men's Match Committee.
Following this were three games of bowls sponsored by Mr B.
One of these was a mixed event which attracted 48 players some of who were visitors from Pemberton and Dunsborough.
Ten lucky players won a prize to take home after the days play.
Players gathered after the event to enjoy drinks and nibbles which magically appeared thanks to Christine Coyle.
The winners of the event were Brenda Mathews, Peter Wills and Ron Eversden with 3 plus 17 shots up.
Second were Joan Bray, Reg Vigors, and B Cameron with 3 wins plus 13 shots. Liz Thomas, Ray Batt, and BJ Walsh were third with 3 wins plus 12 shots and Christine Dawson, Ted Hill and David Hunt were fourth with 2 wins plus 27 shots.
The ladies commenced their championship pairs on Thursday. Twenty-five teams nominated for the event which is a knock out.
The rain interrupted the first game and took its toll on some bowlers as the first game of fourteen ends didn't finish until after 1pm. The finals will be played next Thursday.
A game of pairs will be played for any members not remaining in the competition and is open to all members.
Corporate bowls, the biggest event held on the bowling calendar, is proving to be a mammoth task for all the volunteers that run the event.
With 94 teams playing on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, volunteers are cooking and preparing 500 sausage sizzles over the two days.
Four men do all the cooking and eight ladies prepare in the large kitchen while several other volunteers run the outside drinks area and transport cooked goods from the barbecue to the kitchen.
Five members work the match room, seven more run the social committee area and many more volunteers work in and around the grounds advising players on the rules and reminding players of correct footwear. Several volunteers set up the club and a further group return the seating and tables after the event.
The club really appreciates all those who volunteer for the six-week corporate bowls games – a big thank you from the club.
