03 Mar, 2010 11:22 AM
BUSSELTON had mixed results in the Country Championships on the weekend, with all teams playing in division one.

The under-16 boys were the success story of the weekend – they finished runners-up in their division.

Starting with wins against Geraldton, Waroona and Kalgoorlie they secured a spot in the grand final with a draw against Eaton.

They played Geraldton in the decider, who started strongly.

Busselton came out determined in the second half and pegged back the margin, but Geraldton were too strong and came away winners.

Blake Riley was named in the All Stars and coach Paul Dugan was impressed by the boys, efforts over the weekend.

The under-16 girls, coached by Kevin Tenardi, worked hard in win against Manjimup and had a narrow loss to Albany.

They also toiled hard against Mandurah, Geraldton and Bunbury however, they proved too strong.

Samantha Tysoe was named in the All Stars.

The under-18 girls, coached by Andrea Chinnery, also faced a difficult task.

They played well against Albany and recorded a 14-point win, however lost narrowly to Kalgoorlie by three points.

They were unable to make the finals, but Jemma Stallard was named in the All Stars.

The under-18 boys, under the guidance of Martin Chinnery, worked hard to defeat Australind, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie.

This meant the fight for a place in the grand final against Bunbury would be decided by their match against Mandurah.

Unfortunately, Busselton fell just short with a two-point loss.

Damien Lee gained All Stars selection.
