Plenty of runs in C-grade cricket

03 Mar, 2010 11:58 AM
THERE were runs a plenty in three of the C-grade cricket matches on the weekend, with the victorious sides (Dunsborough, Vasse and Hawks) all posting scores of 200 plus.

However, in the other match, between Nannup and Augusta, runs were at a premium with 17 wickets falling for just 71 runs.

Augusta batted first and were steamrolled for 34, with all the damage coming from just two bowlers – A Fabo (6-16) and J Clark (4-17).

Nannup were in for a shock in their reply when Augusta’s bowlers reduced them to 5-19 and then 7-27. But old hand Pieter Bresser and Dave Prater guided them home safely without the loss of another wicket.

Tom Begley scored more than half of Dunsborough’s total in their home match against Cowaramup, with a swashbuckling century (135). The next best contributor was Ryan Dallimore (35) in their total of 6-265.

In reply a fine half-century from Bob Biddulph kept them in the hunt, but Trent Kelly bowled them out of the game with a scintillating spell of 5-26.

Despite Kelly’s efforts Begley was the deserving winner of the Man-of-the-Match award.

Vasse kept themselves in the hunt for a finals berth with a thrashing of bottom-placed St Marys. Adam Kemp (62) and Shane Callegari (44) led the way in Vasse’s total of 9-203.

And Kemp followed up his solid batting display with an almost unplayable spell of bowling (2-2) to win the Man-of-the-Match award. Along with Mark Sauzier (4-27) he helped Vasse skittle St Marys for 85 in reply.

Yobs hosted Hawks at Bovell 3 in a high-scoring affair. Hawks posted a total of 246 thanks to half-centuries from B Tate (58) and Man-of-the-Match S Earl (56) and J Dinsdale, who fell a run short of 50. John Schepis and Wayne Howell were the pick of the Yobs bowlers taking 3-7 and 3-20 respectively.

Howell backed up his excellent bowling performance with the top score for Yobs (56), but despite Trevor Golding also adding 30 Yobs fell short of Hawks total by 52 runs. This was thanks to some consistent bowling from D Charter 3-20, M Earl 3-28 and C Smith 2-27.
