Record-breaking Busselton Jetty Swim and Half Marathon

08 Feb, 2012 09:58 AM
RECORD numbers of people pounded the pavement and some took their chances with sharks in two major sporting events in the weekend.

The Busselton Half Marathon and Community Fun Run kicked off at 7.30am with Chris O’Neill leading the field home to finish in 01:11:42 on Saturday morning.

Kate Bevilaqua took the honours in the individual women’s race crossing the line in 01:23:15.

A shark sighting near the jetty on Friday afternoon did little to deter about 1400 swimmers who took part in the Busselton Jetty Swim on Sunday morning.

In near-perfect conditions, Travis Nederpelt defended his title and smashed the previous best time, set in 2008, by almost two minutes – finishing in 40.04.

Jaime Bowler was the first woman out of the water with a time of 46.20.
