SENSEI Phil Holt has mastered the art of Bukido Taijutsu and successfully graded for the San Dan Master level.
Fifteen years of training and study paid off for Phil, who now becomes the second-highest ranking practitioner of Bukido Taijutsu in Australia.
At a grading in Perth Phil was judged by three master level instructors: Justin Boylan, Doug Spear and Kevin Smith.
The instructors are themselves masters of martials arts including Zen Do Kai Karate, Muay Thai kick boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Shoot Wrestling, Philippine Weapons and Japanese Swordsmanship.
Phil explained why he had such a diverse range of judges.
“As the syllabus is so wide in Bukido Taijutsu I needed a panel of instructors experienced in a wide range of arts to assess my skill and understanding.”
The grading required Phil to demonstrate his ability with many different aspects of martial arts, including unarmed combat, ground fighting, multiple opponent fighting and 23 different weapons.
“He also had to meditate and explain its significance to martial arts training.
“I enjoy Bukido Taijutsu so much because there are so many different aspects of it. It is the most effective form of self defence because you learn to handle any situation,” said Phil.
Phil also runs free meditation classes at his Traditional Mixed Martial Arts Dojo on Wednesday nights from 7-7.45pm.
“Modern life is stressful and with the demand to keep up, meditation is a necessity to relax the mind and body,” said Phil.
