Skulduggery in race three of winter series

19 Aug, 2009 09:51 AM
ANOTHER beautiful day on the bay, with a gentle 10 knot breeze, greeted the yachts competing in race three of the winter series.

The theme for the day was vikings, pirates and wenches, and so there was plenty of skulduggery among the 10 starting yachts. Costumes ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous, with the crew onboard Ziggy Stardust awarded the treasure chest for best outfits.

When the cannon fired to signal the start of the race water filled missiles and other strange objects filled the air, Scott Armstrong and his crew on board Just Suburban Boys got the jump on their opponents and rounded the top mark in front.

A mutiny appeared to occur onboard Electric Tram when the crew refused to turn and sailed straight out to sea.

Places in the middle of the race changed throughout each leg but Just Suburban Boys stayed well clear and were first home, followed by Rob Johansen in Wings of Wind and Suicide Blond.

Having successfully overturned the mutineers, Greg Simpson managed to bring Electric Tram home in fourth place.

Handicap results were: Just Suburban Boys, 1st; Wings of Wind, 2nd; and Women at Work, 3rd.
