AFTER a disappointing season Abba’s A-grade side have finally found form – a demolition of Cowaramup on the weekend was their second consecutive win.
The win was set-up by some stingy bowling from Richie Lee-Tarran (3-14), Danny Hatton (2-16) and captain Brad ‘Roidy’ Price (2-20). They helped Abba skittle Cowaramup for just 120, with Kye Barrow’s knock of 36 the only real resistance.
In their reply Abba lost youngsters Josh Lee-Tarran and David Macleay early to look shaky at 2-19, but a magnificent partnership between Roidy and Carey Green steadied the ship. They both scored centuries in a 210-run stand, with the partnership only ending when Green retired on 100 not out to give some of his team-mates a chance.
Roidy continued on and carried his bat throughout the innings to finish with a man-of-the-match, winning 135 not out. In total Abba reached 4-289 – easily their best batting performance of the season.
For Cowaramup, opening bowlers Matt Rowe (1-28) and Phil Wray (2-38) were respectable.
In the other A-grade matches Yobs were too strong for Dunsborough and Hawks made easy work of St Marys
Three wickets from Yobs spinner Ben Payne and opening bowler Neil Langenhoven restricted Dunsborough to 151 all out. Yobs batsmen then made easy work of the target, passing the total with five wickets in hand.
Top scorers for Yobs were G Evans (43) and P Haynes (33), although there were also a massive 36 sundries adding to their score. The man-of-the-match award went to Evans for his fine effort opening the batting for Yobs.
A couple of blistering spells from Hawks opening pair of Matt Kent (3-16) and Paul Lipscombe (2-29) reduced St Marys to 5-43 and they never recovered, struggling to be all out for 126 thanks to their number nine and 10 batsmen Jason Hills (26) and Aaron Smith (20).
Despite Matt Hickey striking an early blow by removing Hawks opener Paul Gravett cheaply, Hawks never looked troubled and Martin Head (94) and Ryan Miller (79) made easy work of the target. Martin Head won the man-of-the-match award.
