THE Leeuwin league ladies displayed sustained good bowling form when they prevailed to take out the 2012 inter-league championship, held at Dunsborough during last week.
They finished the competition with 23 points, followed by the South West league on 19 points.
The highly-fancied Murray District finished in third place with 16 points while the Blackwood league managed to accumulate 14 points for their efforts.
Dunsborough’s Pat Manton and Judy Henderson, representing the Leeuwin league, won all of their three games convincingly, a significant contribution to the league’s overall victory.
Leeuwin bowlers Dee Harrison and Toni Hodgson, both from Augusta, were selected to play in the forthcoming inter-zone championships while Jill Winter and Judy Henderson from Dunsborough were chosen as reserves.
Dunsborough’s men bowlers enjoyed a great deal of success in Saturday’s Leeuwin league pennants fixtures. Dunsborough Blue had a crushing victory over Cowaramup while playing on their home greens. Dunsborough White performed exceptionally well by beating Augusta on their own turf, winning all of the contested rinks and earning six valuable pennant points.
The annual Tom Hadley’s open men’s fours event was conducted at Dunsborough on Sunday, attracting teams from bowling clubs throughout the South West. Teams from Kukerin, Margaret River and Capel were represented on the day.
None of the competing teams managed to win all of their three games and Edmund Hoemburg, Tim Sansom, Brian Marwick and Peter Wachmer emerged as winners as a result of gaining two wins and 40 shots up.
Kim Cross, Doug Myers, Walter Treloar and Pat Hines were runners-up in the competition after losing their last game to a team that had been soundly beaten in their previous encounters. They ended up with two wins and 14 shots up.
Brian Buttsworth, Tom Ferguson, Bill Bass and Bill Pearce finished in third place with two wins and 10 shots up.
