Dunsborough martial artist wins national Iaido title

08 Feb, 2012 10:15 AM
LAST month Dunsborough martial artist Richard Berghuis, as a member of the WA team, attended the annual national seminar and championships of the Australian Kendo Organisation held in Sydney.

At this event Australian martial artists come together to expand their knowledge and skill and compete with each other. Richard won the individual Iaido at third Dan level, as well as being a part of a three-man WA team, along with local training partner Terri Gallear. They came second in the Iaido teams final. Richard and Terri also came second in the Jodo pairs competition.

The next day, Richard graded to fourth Dan in Iaido, making him the most senior graded teacher of Iaido and Jodo in the South West.

He is about to start teaching a 10-week beginners course in Iaido. Call 9755 2529 for details.
