Forensics maintains golden touch

THE best-laid plans of trainer Peter Snowden paid the ultimate dividend yesterday when Golden Slipper winning mare Forensics gave the Darley team a group 1 triumph in the Myer Classic.

"Dad had always planned to give Forensics a month in between runs down here, and after she had that unlucky run when she should have won last start, we knew she was on target," said Snowden's son Paul, who runs the Melbourne stable of the Sydney-based operation.

Jockey Kerrin McEvoy put Forensics ($3.30) into a lovely trailling position with cover and despite being back in the field early he worked into the race while main danger Mimi Lebrock ($6) was stuck three wide doing all the work near the lead from her wide alley.

"Last spring down here in Melbourne Forensics didn't fire and we thought at one time it was because she might not have liked this way of going," Paul Snowden said.

"But she came back in the autumn in Sydney with a great campaign after doing her preparatory work down here in Melbourne.

"This time in Dad gave her a run in Sydney and she came here at the top of her game. When Dad came back to Melbourne last week he had one look at Forensics and gave me a wink. That was enough for me to know he was happy with her."

McEvoy said the 1¼ length win of Forensics was "a great result for the whole team at Darley".

The Kris Lees-trained Absolutelyfabulous ($13) worked to the line stylishly for second while Mimi Lebrock was the run of the race a further 1½ lengths away.
