A GOOD Samaritan who directed traffic at a horrific car crash just after midday on Sunday found later that $500 had been stolen from her car.
The woman contacted a prominent Busselton businessman, who helped at the crash scene, on Monday, to ask if he had noticed anyone take anything from her car during the accident.
The businessman, who was third on the scene, said the woman told him she believed the money was taken at the crash site.
Both the businessman and the woman had left their car doors open while attending to the accident victim, while others on the scene were getting towels and a first-aid kit from a car.
No other property was reported stolen from the scene, despite at least one other vehicle having handbags and purses inside.
The 21-year-old driver had been to Bunbury TAFE when he lost control of his Nissan Silvia, which veered off Layman Road in Wonnerup and collided with a tree, tearing his car in two.
The engine of the vehicle remained on Layman Road, and the body came to rest in a paddock nearby.
The section of Layman Road remained closed for two and a half hours while firefighters, police and St John Ambulance officers attended the scene as the man was cut from the wreck.
He was conveyed to Bunbury Hospital before being sent to Royal Perth Hospital, suffering from severe lacerations to his face and injuries to his legs.
Police officers from Bunbury were at the scene and said they were amazed the driver survived.
