THE Alaskan cat who shares his name with Busselton’s most senior council member was injured in a vicious dog attack earlier this month.
The cat, Mayor Stubbs, was elected to the position in the town of Talkeetna 15 years ago, when he was a kitten.
Since then he has garnered support from across the globe.
However, a vicious attack by a dog on September 1, left the mayor recovering at Big Lake-Susitna Veterinary Hospital.
The feline dignitary sustained chest injuries including penetrating wounds, a collapsed right lung and a fractured sternum in the attack.
Rumours of an assassination attempt by canine factions eyeing the top job have been quashed.
The Big Lake-Susitna Veterinary Hospital released regular updates on the Mayor’s condition.
Mayor Stubb’s attending animal physician Amy Lehman issued a statement on the hospital’s blog last week.
“I’m thrilled to report that Stubbs’ recovery is right on track,” Dr Lehman said.
Attacked: Mayor Stubbs is on the mend following a vicious dog attack.
“I know his caretakers are touched by the massive response to his situation.”
Well-wishers from across the globe have taken to Mayor Stubb’s Facebook page to offer their support.
The Mail ran a story on the quirky shared name in August last year.
“I am not sure that I compare very well with the high-maintenance lifestyle of my counter-part in Alaska,” Busselton’s Mayor Stubbs said at the time.
The Mail hopes the mayor of Talkeetna has a speedy recovery.
