The Geographe Bay Yacht Club were active over the new year with a successful vinyl night new years eve party which saw a crowd of enthusiastic dancers welcoming in the arrival of 2014.
There was also a good crowd of members and friends watching the sun go down over drinks and dinner on Friday January 3.
The Club is open on Fridays and welcomes new members and friends, and the beach front bar and meals are available on Fridays too.
Only the Cruisers and Lasers raced on Sunday because the Sharpies were represented at the 71st National Championship being held at Mounts Bay Sailing Club Perth.
Peter Cuthbert sailing Suicide Blonde has had good results in several of the heats at the championships.
The Pelican fleet was a hive of industry on Sunday, undergoing sail measuring and registering for the State Pelican Championship which is run in Busselton this week.
Thirty eight boats have entered in total which will bring 76 young sailors together on the bay.
Eight local boats have entered and the club are hoping for a podium representation.
It was a perfect day on the bay on Sunday for the Cruisers and Lasers with brisk west to north westerlies at a fairly constant 15 knots.
Millenium Falcon (Ben Roodhouse/Craig Godridge) scooped the pool in Cruisers taking both first and fastest places.
Jean Genie (Ken Waller) and Skyrider (Dave Watts) fought it out throughout the race with The Genie finally beating Skyrider by mere seconds.
Sweet Chilli (Doug Kelly) begun to find her way clocking up some good speeds and putting in her best performance this year.
The lasers were down in numbers with only four competitors 2 Worlds Colliding (Neil Forster ) and Rocket (Andy Whittell) who were both so keen to start that both jumped the gun and were disqualified.
This didn’t much spoil their enjoyment of a good race but opened the door to skilful young sailors Bryte Townsend in Nani taking first place and Hayley Johnson in La Luna taking second place.
