BUSSELTON has become the latest recipient in a state-wide partnership between Telstra and WA police.
Last Friday Telstra donated mobile phone handsets to Busselton police for victims of domestic violence.
Senior Constable and domestic violence officer Anthony Smith said the donation would make a significant impact on improving the lives of victims of domestic violence and their families in the area.
“People who are affected by domestic violence need to stay in touch with family,” he said.
“This can help to make a really bad situation a bit better.”
Senior Constable Smith said that support was only offered to them very rarely and therefore wanted to thank the Busselton Telstra store for providing the handsets.
Telstra’s WA state media manager Mark Thompson said the donation was part of an ongoing campaign and partnership with WA police and it had already proved extremely valuable in Bunbury and the metropolitan area.
“The plan is that police will pass on the phones to victims so they can maintain contact with their family and friends,” he said.
“Community safety is a priority for Telstra and this is an area that needs assistance. It’s a very important cause for us.”
Telstra area manager Boyd Brown said the phones were critical when victims were in a very vulnerable space.
“We are really pleased to be able to provide for Busselton,” he said.
“This is our way to empower victims a little bit.”
