A WARM and windless Saturday morning threatened sailing for just a little while before a steady and pleasant breeze provided perfect conditions.
The Geographe Bay Yacht Club held its off shore race at 1pm from the marina with eight starters.
Ken Waller’s new yacht Let’s Dance took off like a bullet taking a substantial lead which was maintained throughout the race.
The handicap for any new yacht remains high for three races, placing them well down in the end results.
Millennium Falcon and Electric Tram had an exciting duel, finishing about three minutes apart in the three hour race; but the outstanding performance was by Ayres Rocket who took first place on corrected time.
Millennium Falcon was second and Skyrider sailed consistently well for third place. The season is nearing its conclusion but there promises to be some fierce competition especially for fastest times with The Tram challenging Twist and Shout several times this season, The Falcon creeping closer and Lets Dance threatening them all.
While the off shore race was being sailed the sharpies sailed two short courses. Amber Dreams with Laurie Francis at the helm was fastest in both races.
In race one Amber Dreams streaked ahead to finish over a minute in front of Suicide Blonde.
The Asylum was third on corrected time and Craig Francis and crew in Norma were second over the line at times approaching the speedy Amber Dreams. In the second race The Asylum was first on corrected time with Uninvited second and Suicide Blonde third.
In this race too, the Francis brothers had an interesting duel, Norma finishing only 10 seconds behind Amber Dreams.
Three lasers competed with new member David Freeman showing considerable skill for his first sail in Sandstoned.
Freeman only arrived in Busselton this week and shows exciting promise.
Jacques Audet gave Freeman the competition he needed in Florence pipping him home but second on corrected tine.
Hayley Johnson had a few hiccups in La Luna, retiring before the finish.
The pelicans relished the lighter conditions. Ned and Max sailing Wikikamukau into first place.
Kai and Phillip in Bunyip IV took second and Georgia and Shayla were third , while Zoe and Claire in Monkey Biz had the fastest time.
In the second race Ned and Max continued their exciting day by again taking first place.
Sonic was second and Georgia and Shayla once again took third place.
