IN just two short months Busselton teenager Matt Beckett will go from representing WA to touring America and learning from the best.
The 17 year old has been selected to be in the Australian under 19s men’s development team for softball.
The fast pitcher has to find nearly $7000 for the trip on July eight to 23.
He will be training and playing in San Francisco while learning from some of the best North American baseball coaches.
The team will then travel to Vancouver for more game time experience.
The selectors told Beckett that he was worth the investment because of his potential to play for the Australian open men’s team in the future.
Beckett has played the sport since he was seven years old, taking after his mother Lee.
He has played for the Busselton Strikers as well as Bunbury team Wanderers and has represented WA three times.
It will be an opportunity of a lifetime for Beckett, but he needs community support said his mum.
“It’s a lot of money to get him over there so we are looking at ways to fundraise and getting sponsorship,” she said.
