A LAUNCH of Margaret River Region’s most widespread art exhibition will take place tonight.
The Margaret River Region Open Studios will launch at the Leeuwin Estate winery art space by event patrons Tricia and Denis Horgan from 5.30 tonight.
The Open Studios initiative will see 82 artists from across the Margaret River Region opening their homes and studios for the public to become immersed in their working environment and methods.
Open Studios chairman Bill Castleden said he has seen the concept work in parts of the United Kingdom where his sister works full time as an artist and often opens her home to art enthusiasts.
Mr Castleden developed the concept for the Margaret River Region alongside vice chair Jillian Taylor, and together they took it to various tourism bodies and art organisations in WA.
“They all said go for it! Do it!” Mr Castleden said.
Mr Castleden said not only is an opportunity for artists to promote themselves to a community who may not be previously aware of their work, it is also a chance for members of the community to learn from the artists themselves.
“What we’re trying to do here is encourage people to leave their contact details with the artists for workshops the artist could conduct in the future,” Mr Castleden said.
