IT has been a busy few weeks for Bukido Taijutsu students who have been preparing for their gradings under the watchful eye of sensei Phil Holt.
Holt has been helping many batches of students to sit the test for their respective levels and he is pleased to announce all the students passed with flying colours.
Starting back in March, Mathew Hilyard, Tanner Liddelow, Austin Brown and Ellie Triplett were all graded for their blue belts.
All showed strong sparring and precision sword techniques.
Then on April 5 there was a mixed grading with Jason Foord passing his green belt and a group of youngsters going for their orange belt.
Almost every weekend until Easter saw students being tested in the many aspects of the art with the highlight being Jayden Baggett and Ben Robinson who were put through several hours of sparring, wrestling, throwing, and fighting with various weapons to earn their purple belts.
"Our art is not like other arts where only one or two areas are specialised in,” Holt said.
“Our philosophy is that a situation can occur any time, any place, with any amount of people and with any weapons involved,”
“Therefore we train a wide range of techniques, tactics and weapons defences."
Holt also teaches meditation and breathing techniques to settle and calm the nerves in high pressure situations.
“This is useful not just in a fighting situation but also for just for the pressures of modern living,” he said.
“Even young people studying for exams or people who have busy jobs can benefit."
Holt and the other instructors at Bukido Taijutsu all congratulate everyone who has graded in the passed few weeks.
