AUGUSTA-Margaret River Hawks football teams travelled to Donnybrook on Sunday to play the first games of the 2014 season.
Donnybrook took victory in the League and Reserves matches by 47 points and 71 points respectively, but the Hawks colt’s team took victory by six points.
The league game started out competitively with goals from both sides coming in the first three minutes of play before a handful more goals from each side leaving Donnybrook five points up at the end of the first quarter.
Donnybrook continued to dominate throughout the rest of the match, leaving the Hawks behind throughout each quarter with a handful of unanswered goals.
In the last quarter Donnybrook kicked five goals to the Hawks one and took victory by 47 points.
Final score: Donnybrook 12-11 (83) to AMR 5-6 (36)
The reserves game was a similar affair as Donnybrook started strong from the opening bounce, kicking 11 goals to the Hawks’ two to lead by 58 points at the end of half time.
The Hawks kept Donnybrook at bay a little more expertly in the second half, conceding only four goals, but they were unable to match their first half performance and Donnybrook netted victory by 71 points at full time.
Final score: Donnybrook 15-12 (102) to AMR 4-7 (31)
The colts game was very much a tit-for-tat affair as the score line stayed very even throughout the time of play.
Only one goal made the difference at the end of the day as the Hawks were able to fight off a determined Donnybrook side to lead 84 points to 78 at full time.
Final score: AMR 12-12 (84) to Donnybrook 11-12 (78).
