V8 champion Jamie Whincup cannot wait to visit the South West for the first time as he takes part in the Wings for Life World Run.
The five time V8 Super Car Champion said the unique event was for a great cause and a big part in why he would be running.
Whincup said most of his training was for middle distances so he would not need to change his routine.
“Although, anything after 10 kilometre mark will start to hurt,” he said.
Despite his worry about going past the 10 km mark, Whincup has set a goal of 20 km before the catcher car reaches him.
“I think I am dreaming, but I’ll aim high and see how I go,” he said.
Busselton will be Australia’s only representation for the event which will spread across 34 different locations.
Whincup said the locals had no excuse not to participate.
“But we are also urging people from all over the country to come over and see if you can surprise yourself,” he said.
The Wings for Life World Run involves every location involved to start running at the same time.
In Busselton the start time will be 6pm and people will be running for 30 minutes before the catcher car starts up at 15 kilometres per hour.
Once the car passes you, your race is over.
The last person running in the world will be crowned the winner.
Each location winner will receive an invitation to compete in the next Wings for Life World Run with their choice of location.
The global winner will receive a priceless round the trip.
Whincup has his sight set on triathlete Courtney Atkinson taking out the prize.
“My guess is Courtney Atkinson will get the furthest in the quickest time, but there might be a couple of proper runners who will turtle pass him at the end,” he said.
