A "devastated" Lance Franklin says he was not texting or speeding in the lead-up to his car accident which has again dragged the star Sydney recruit into the spotlight for the wrong reasons.
"I didn't see the car on the left hand side of the road. It was just an accident and accidents do happen. It's pretty much it," Franklin said on Thursday morning.
"I wasn't texting at all, I wasn't speeding.
"I'm so glad no one was hurt in this case and for the people's car that were hit we can get them fixed up as soon as possible and move on.
Franklin said he was "shaky" and in "shock" straight after the accident.
"I was devastated and so thankful no one else was in the car with me or in the car next to me," said Franklin, who was not hurt in the crash.
Franklin has not been in contact with the owners of the other vehicles involved but said he was "deeply sorry" for the damage caused in the accident.
"I haven't had a chance to do anything really. That happened last night at 7 o'clock and from there I've spoken to the football club, my family and friends and the people who own the cars I don't think they were there at the time so I didn't get a chance to speak to them," Franklin said.
"In the next couple of days there's no doubt I will be in contact with them and my insurance people and work out what we're going to do.
"I don't know what more to say. I truly am sorry for the inconvenience I've caused to the other people's car and I'm deeply sorry for that."
At the time of the crash, Franklin was driving a Jeep loaned by Jeep Australia to his girlfriend, television presenter and model Jesinta Campbell.
Franklin said Campbell was only concerned about his health, rather than the damage to the vehicle, following the crash.
"[The damage to the vehicle] was the last thing on her mind," he said.
"It was more about me and how I felt from the accident. Obviously no one wants to be in an accident and injured, and let alone may have let someone else be injured too."
Franklin also said he was frustrated to find himself in the spotlight for something other than his form on the football field.
"Obviously there’s frustration, more from myself than anyone," he said.
"This is something that not anyone wants to go through. An accident is an accident, but I don’t want to see myself in the spotlight again and obviously I’ve found myself in it again. But I just want to move forward as quickly as possible and get onto this week’s game."
Franklin has told the Swans he hit a car which triggered the air bags.
The accident was discussed by the Swans before training.
"It was an unfortunate accident last night, that's what we looked at, that's what we addressed and that's what he's said today," said Swans coach John Longmire.
Franklin is expected to play on Saturday against Melbourne at the MCG.
Earlier this year, the Swans said Franklin had lent his Mercedes to his teammate Dan Hannebery, who was involved in an accident in the car. Franklin was not in the car and the club said nobody was injured.
