Rivalry growing between leading pigeons

Sensational racing was the order of the day in this week’s Busselton Pigeon Club 435km event from Coorow, with favourable winds making quick times the order of the day.

When results were read, it was the ‘Sharminators’, Anthony Sharman who greeted the judge to win by seven seconds from Steve King.

Anthony has been in the minor placings all year but a velocity of 1866.222mpm from his well-credentialed bird ‘Bronze Bullet’ finally got him over the line.

A velocity of that magnitude would normally guarantee an easy win but the result was closer than Black Caviar’s win with the ‘legend’ Steve King clocking his famous Red Cock bird named ‘Guru Josh’ to register a fine 1865.891mpm.

Guru Josh is in its third year of racing but continues to come to the fore in the middle distance events.

The club can see a big rivalry starting between the ‘Bullet’ and the ‘Guru’ as there are still plenty of races left in their distance range.

Peter Adams thought he had a winner with his Blue Bar Hen when she hit the trap just before 1pm but had to settle for third, seven minutes behind the winner.

Last week’s winner Rob ‘The Vampire’ Babilosky was brought back to earth when he clocked a Black Hen to gain fourth.

His velocity was 1307.678mpm and in normal races this would have a good time but on the day it was found wanting.

‘Rotten’ Ron Blackwell snuck in for fifth but as usual he claimed the pool money, which is doing a great job of supplementing his income.

Next week sees the shorter Yanchep release point and members will be hoping to continue the great year.
