Banking on assistance

BUSSELTON residents of all ages are learning the finer points of banking thanks to the work of Bankwest’s Luke Pearce.

Luke, a lending consultant with the bank, has been helping customers with internet banking at the Busselton branch, and recently conducted a presentation at MacKillop Catholic College about the importance of learning good banking habits.

“It’s about raising awareness about how banking should work, people can be a bit blasé about their banking,” he said.

Luke said it was predominantly older customers who wanted internet banking help, and this was something he did on a day-to-day basis at the branch.

The MacKillop presentation was the only one he has conducted in the Busselton area, but he did two during a year’s stint at Bankwest’s Karratha branch, which is where the idea was formed.

“I really enjoy presenting to students,” he said.

“We take them through how credit and debit cards work, and talk about how to manage their money, and avoid developing bad spending habits.

“I think they get a lot out of the presentation, as there are always lots of questions afterwards.”

Luke, who also plays football for the all-conquering Dunsborough-Yallingup Mulies, also said it was about engaging with the community.

“It all helps to build a relationship with the customers and getting my face out there.”
