Staying in:

DVD: The Artist (PG 2011; Written and directed by Michel Hazanavicius. Starring Jean Dujardin, Bérénice Bejo and John Goodman) – Silent movie star George Valentin (Dujardin) is left by the wayside as the ‘talkies’ craze sweeps through Hollywood, in this captivating homage to silent cinema. After the success of the OSS 117 films they made together, Hazanavicius, Dujardin and Bejo have teamed up again to great success, The Artist winning five Oscars at this year’s Academy Awards, including Best Actor, Best Director and Best Picture.

Forgetting it all:

CD: Spirit Bird – Xavier Rudd (Salt.X via Universal) – The seventh funky record from one of Australia’s favourite alternative blues and roots musicians. After performing at the River Sessions festival in Queensland on the weekend, Rudd is off to do some international shows, but will return in August for his Australian tour, finishing off with a performance at Caves House in September.
