Shark sightings surface

A video of two sharks circling a boat off Dunsborough has surfaced today.

The footage was said to have been taken from the boat on June 17 off Quindalup jetty.

The inquisitive sharks are seen circling the boat and nibbling the motor.

It is reported the sharks hung around for about 1.5 hours.

Michael Burgess from the Department of Fisheries said that it was important that people report shark sightings when they happen.

“The sighting wasn’t reported at the time, which is unfortunate, because we had a crew that could have gone out and tried to tag the sharks that day.

“It’s important for us to know about these sightings because it gives us the opportunity to tag the sharks and alert the public if necessary.

“It’s important to tag sharks when we can, because it gives us the ability to learn about their behaviour.”

To report a shark sighting call the Water Police on 9442 8600.
