UPDATE: The City of Busselton Council voted with the officer recommendation to leave out a Multi-Functional Civic Centre as part of its new administration building.
After two alternative motions were put up at the July 23 meeting, council went with original recommendation.
The recommendation was to not include a Multi-Functional Civic Centre in the construction of the Civic Administration building.
To endorse the concept plans of a Civic Administration building which includes a function room and to be constructed in 2015/16.
Reconfirms the commitment to Lot 450 Queen Street, Busselton in the cultural precinct as the preferred site for a Performing Arts Centre.
Include the Performing Arts Centre in the long term financial plan from 2017/18 with design costs, construction over two years and operational costs.
Councillor Tom Tuffin argued that the Multi-Functional Civic Centre should be included in the administration building because it was what the council had promised.
"A function room is limited and with what it can provide which means the community get nothing and I think it will leave them resentful," he said.
He also argued that the cost associated with a Performing Arts Centre wasn't worth the city's hassle.
Cr Tuffin's motion was lost three to six.
Councillor Rob Bennett then brought in an amendment to the officer's recommendation.
The amendment was to delay the administration building altogether until council had a better design to incorporate a Multi-Functional Civic Centre.
This motion was also lost.
