AS a result of losing her mother in a freak accident, author Brooke Davis found a new outlet to cope with her grief.
Her book Lost and Found was a number one best selling book in its first week of publication, something the 34-year-old Australian author is still coming to terms with.
Miss Davis spoke with the Mail ahead of her in-store appearance ‘Driving Miss Davis – A chat with Brooke’ at Barefoot Books in Busselton in August.
“Inspiration for the book came from a few different places,” she said.
“Seven years ago my mum died in a freak accident so writing the book was my way of working through that.”
Set in WA, the story follows three main characters Millie, Agatha Pantha and Karl the touch typist on a journey in search of Millie’s mother.
Miss Davis said she wrote the book over five years and in the point of view of a seven-year-old girl.
When Miss Davis was grieving for her mother she said she felt like she retreated to a child-like state and wanted to represent that in Lost and Found.
“The book isn’t only about exploring grief, it also touches on life, happiness and love,” she said.
“I still haven’t fully processed the books success yet – it’s still such a surprise.”
Miss Davis said she was looking forward to visiting Busselton stating it was one of her favourite parts of the world.
“I’m interested to know what Busselton readers think of the book,” she said.
Miss Davis will visit Barefoot Books at Shop 21-23 Figtree Lane in Busselton from 6.30pm on August 13 and book signing is available.
