“THERE’s no such thing as free in this world.”
This is the advice of Busselton’s Computer West sales coordinator Sam Kennedy ahead of his free talk on computer safety next month.
“The Internet has changed a lot over the years,” he said.
“Nothing is on and off, for example once a photo is uploaded it will be there forever in some way, shape or form.”
Mr Kennedy’s talk for the Naturaliste University of the Third Age will focus on how to identify computer viruses, how they come about and what people can do to protect their computers against them and also how to avoid scams.
U3A chairman Don McDonald said the primary focus of the University was to provide information and education for seniors.
“Scams are a growing problem with personal computers,” he said.
“The biggest problem we see is the pop-up type scams.”
Mr Kennedy will also explore and define the ‘cloud’ and answer any questions people may have in relation to online safety.
He will show parents how they can restrict access to the Internet so that their children can only access certain things.
The talk will be held at Busselton Community Centre at 2.30pm on August 7 and all are welcome.
