TORRENTIAL rain, lightening and strong winds failed to dampen the spirit and grit of Perth’s top corporate teams in the inaugural The Great Adventure Challenge in Dunsborough on Saturday, July 19.
Teams were able to conquer the challenge and raise money to help Starlight Children’s Foundation.
The course included some of Dunsborough's most beautiful landscapes and saw participants visit the impressive Ngligi Caves and the Old Lighthouse for special surprise challenges.
The Challenge is a tough adventure race designed to test both mind and body for corporate teams of eight members.
The course involves up to 70 kilometres of running, mountain biking, kayaking, climbing and swimming.
Each team can have four members on the course with the other half there for support.
On Saturday, a strong north-west wind forced the cancellation of all kayak legs due to the treacherous conditions, so competitors had to get back on their bikes to complete the course.
Some teams experienced the worst the weather had to offer with thunderstorms rolling in towards the end of the day.
Despite all the challenges, teams finished with smiles on their faces.
The first team across the line was the ‘Ferries’ from finance company Ferrier Hodgson in a time of five hours 51 minutes.
Second and third were from PWC who had a great rivalry throughout the day.
Team Extreme got over the line second with Juani’s Bandits finishing third.
The male members of both PWC teams received a special mention who completed the race wearing a purple tutu for the whole day.
Although KPMG might have been the last team across the line, they are currently the leading fund-raisers with $30,000.
